Coast Guard Academy Athlete Places 10th at Nationals

Kaitlyn MooneyLa Crosse, Wisconsin – Freshman Kaitlyn Mooney closed out her brilliant freshman season by placing tenth in the extreme heat at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The freshman phenom finished in 17:42.76 with temperatures in the mid 90's. She had the 15th fastest time in Division III this season in the 5K heading into the championship with a school-record time of 16:53.70 which she ran at the Silfen Invitational in April.

Mooney earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship after becoming the top freshman finisher since 2013 by taking fourth place (20:48.3). She was then an All-American twice during the indoor season finishing in fifth place in the 3K (9:46.79) and then anchored the DMR to a seventh place finish (11:50.97).
