Ahnrud Named Interim Head Coach for Men's and Women's Cross Country

New London, CT – Long-time Assistant Coach Greg Ahnrud has been named interim head coach for both the men's and women's cross country team for the 2018 season.

Ahnrud takes over for Ethan Brown who will be out this season on paternity leave and will return for the indoor track & field season.

"When we brought Coach Ahnrud on board in 2012, he helped establish a sound training program that was mindful of the challenges our cadet-athletes encounter," commented Brown. "Having Greg take the lead this season and be elevated to full-time status is a tribute to all his hard work and dedication to the program, as well as his tremendous experience and proven success among our distance runners over the past few years. Since arriving on board here at the Academy, Coach Ahnrud established himself as one of the best young coaches in the region and across the country. Our program is lucky to have him and we are extremely grateful to Athletic Director Tim Fitzpatrick and the athletic administration for making Greg's' full-time status a reality."

Both the men's and women's cross country team has seen consistent success since Ahnrud has arrived on the staff with both teams finishing in the top-25 at the NCAA Division III New England Championship, highlighted by the women's team taking home their best finish at the regional championship in 13th.

"Coach Brown has been an invaluable help in my growth as a coach, and I'll be doing my best to repay him with a great season as Interim Head Coach during his leave," said Ahnrud. "Our entire roster has shown strong year-on-year and season-on-season growth, and I expect this season to be business as usual, with us improving both our NEWMAC and Regional standings."

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, September 22nd, when they travel to Williamstown, Massachusetts for the Purple Valley Invitational hosted by Williams.
