Coast Guard Swimming Earns All-American Honors at Nationals

Greensboro, NC – Joe Rodriguez broke the school record in the 50 freestyle and earned a pair of All-America honors to highlight the first day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
Rodriguez placed third in the 50 freestyle with a school record time of 19.88 and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Patrick Jackson, Chasse Sodemann and Tyler Dominick which finished in eighth with a time of 1:29.98 to earn All-America honors.
It was the first two All-America honors for Rodriguez, the first for Jackson and Dominick and the second for Sodemann, who earned All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke as he finished sixth in 2017.
Also on the opening day, Eric Fuhs was 34th in the 200 IM (1:52.93) and Sodemann was 42nd in the 200 IM (1:57.90).
On the women's side, the Bears 200 medley relay team of Josie McGuire, Sarah Passilla, Emily Benson and Kristen Durham-Young broke their own school record with a time of 1:49.27 to place 30th.
Passilla placed 27th in the 200 IM (2:06.74).
