Local Treasures: Sift Bakery's Adam Young

Sift Bakery owner and head pastry chef Adam Young talks about how he got started as a baker, the ups and downs of owning a family business, writing a new cookbook, as well as his experience on Food Network's Best Baker in America competition, which he won in 2018.

Adam Young is the owner and head pastry chef of Sift Bake Shop in Mystic, CT. Before opening Sift in 2016, he was the Executive Pastry Chef at Ocean House for six years, a Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond property. Prior to landing in New England in 2010, Young worked all along the East Coast after graduating from the New England Culinary Institute.
Since opening Sift in 2016, the bakery umbrella has expanded to include a second location in Watch Hill, RI, a rooftop cocktail bar, and classic doughnut shop.
Young was crowned Food Network’s BEST BAKER IN AMERICA in 2018, and was also named Best Pastry Chef in Connecticut by the Connecticut Restaurant Association in 2019. Young is also a frequent contributor to Food Network and can recently be seen as a guest judge on Food Network’s “Holiday Gingerbread Showdown” and “Chopped Sweets.”
Currently Young is also working on writing his own cookbook and enjoys spending his free time with wife and two young daughters.
