The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center is now accepting applications for the 2025 National Music Theater Conference. The submission window will remain open until Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:59pm PST.
Selected pieces will receive a two-week-long, writer-driven workshop featuring a team of industry professionals, which will take place on the O’Neill’s campus during summer 2025. Each workshop will include three public readings, and writers will have time to rewrite and experiment with their work between each one.
The National Music Theater Conference supports work of many styles of music theater, including song-cycles, operas, theater for young audiences, and experimental work. Musicals are eligible for the Conference if they have not yet received a professional production.
"I am truly looking forward to the NMTC 2025 selection process,” Artistic Director Alexander Gemignani said. The level of innovation and originality of the submitted pieces never ceases to amaze me and our fantastic pool of readers year after year. I cannot wait to see what's on writers' minds this year.”
Applications for this program are open to all; professional representation is not required. Applications must include a 30-page script sample, up to five demos, and the writing team’s developmental goals.
Materials should be submitted via the online application form at https://theoneill.submittable.com/submit. A $15 fee offsets the costs of the administration of the application process and submission platform. If the fee is a barrier to submission, a number of waivers are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be requested on the O’Neill’s website prior to beginning an application.
