For parents nationwide, the routine "IEP" meetings to discuss their children's Individualized
Education Programs (IEP) can often seem overwhelming and confusing. To aid in better
understanding, Niantic, CT-based Piehler Heikkinen & Gerboth LLC is pleased to present a
free seminar on "Reading An IEP" with guest educator Robin Slane.
Slane, a special education teacher in the Montville Public Schools with more than a decade of
experience working with dyslexic children, brings passion and humor to her work with children
and parents. As part of her presentation, Slane will provide a deep, but easily understandable,
overview of how to read and interpret an IEP in hopes of helping parents feel more
empowered during their time with their children's IEP team.
"Our law firm is founded on the principle of serving one's community," said Debra Heikkinen,
co-founder and partner. "This seminar will be a first of many that we plan to offer, all of which
are being created in response to the needs shared with us in the field of special education and
beyond."
Free and open to the public, the event will be held at the Piehler Heikkinen & Gerboth office
located at 85 Pennyslvania Ave., Niantic, CT 06357. Refreshments provided and RSVPs
encouraged.
