Old Saybrook, CT –  The Southeastern Connecticut chapter of SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to the success of small businesses, will present a free event on “Business Tips for ARTrepreneurs: How To Market Your Creations,” featuring Jill Butler, local artist and SCORE client. Enjoy information, networking and free coffee in a beautiful space, the Essex Art Association.

SCORE recognizes that many artists and craftspeople are not comfortable with the business side of selling their work. Most prefer spending more time creating than marketing. The reality is: generating income from your work requires presenting your work in a way that speaks to and connects with the people you want to identify as your “target customer/buyer.”

The goal of this event is to provide individuals in the creative arts some tips for marketing their work and an opportunity to network with other artists, creatives and business mentors from SCORE. Being an artist is not a must to join the event. Jill Butler, a well-established local artist and designer, will share her experiences and gains from working with SCORE. Margo Weitekamp, the Vice Chair of the Southeastern Chapter of SCORE and a business executive, will provide insights for marketing your work.

Workshop Presenter Jill Butler is a collage artist, author/illustrator, and product designer. For Butler, art is also meant to resonate beyond the walls on which it hangs. The visuals of everyday living and dining, especially in France, inspires her to develop an extensive range of products for daily use. Jill is a former New York City corporate executive turned creative artistic entrepreneur of nearly 25 years. She grew up in Kalamazoo, MI; after college she moved to New York City to begin her career. After many years in the Big Apple she moved to Paris for 16 years and worked in the arts. She moved back to the U.S. in 2003 and continues to create in her Essex and Chester, CT studios.

Workshop Presenter Margo Weitekamp is the Vice Chair of the Southeastern Chapter of SCORE and a volunteer mentor in Essex. She has extensive business experience in the area of marketing, marketing research and strategy development. She has worked for BBDO Advertising Agency, Procter & Gamble, and was a Vice President at Johnson & Johnson for many years. Margo moved to Essex from New Jersey 18 months ago; she is an active SCORE volunteer and owns a marketing consulting business, Strategy & Insights, LLC.
