The Day Publishing Company, publisher of
The Day newspaper, is launching a new weekly publication on Oct. 1, 2020 to cover the news in the eight (8) communities that comprise the greater Norwich area.
The Norwich Times joins the roster of the company’s 15 other free weekly newspapers that span the Connecticut coastline from East Haven to the Rhode Island border.
With a distribution of more than 28,000, The Norwich Times will reach 100% of the households in Norwich, Bozrah, Franklin, Sprague, Scotland, Lisbon, Voluntown and Griswold.
“We are excited to expand the reach of our Times weekly newspapers into the Norwich area,” said Timothy Dwyer, president & publisher. “We are also happy to be able to provide a platform that connects local businesses to residents of the Norwich area.”
“I am so very excited to be part of the newly created Norwich Times. As a lifelong resident of Norwich, I am thrilled to be able to offer the wonderful local businesses a solution that allows them to speak to every household in and around Norwich with a quality editorially based publication that’s mailed into homes every week,” said Advertising Director Dan Graziano.
“Our plan is simple,” according to Managing Editor Tim Cotter. “Bring our award-winning journalism to the greater Norwich area. Some of these towns are quickly becoming news deserts and this weekly is designed to combat that.
Cotter continued, “The Norwich Times will complement Claire Bessette's outstanding coverage of Norwich for The Day, focusing on community news in the eight-town region. If you have ideas on how we can best serve this region please contact Community Editor Lee Howard (l.howard@theday.com) or Assistant Community Editor Amanda Hutchinson (a.hutchinson@theday.com).” Calendar and library items can be emailed to neighbors@theday.com.
"The best news we publish comes from our readers," said Howard. "We are counting on them to let us know about random acts of kindness and people in need of help. We also encourage readers to engage with us by writing interesting essays and historical pieces, sending us photos of local happenings and telling us about the milestones of their lives."
